Born April 26, 1951, in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture
Made professional debut in the expanded Fall, 1972 edition of Ribbon with "I'm the Vampire?!"
Joined Leji-sha, Matsumoto Leiji's production house, in 1973. The character of Yattaran, first mate on the Arcadia in Space Pirate Captain Harlock is modeled on Shintani.
Went independent in 1977, promptly drawing acclaim with first big hit, "Phantom Murui (Phantoms Unknown)" (story by Fumimura Sho). Other titles include Area 88, Futari Taka (Two Eagles), Cleopatra D.C., and Desert Rose.

The art of Shintani Kaoru, action manga artist extraordinaire, is collected at last on CD-ROM, with all the things the fans want: color illustrations focusing on his best known works, plus an extended interview with the artist, describing the creative process in detail (Japanese Only).
