Fujimi High School (2) |
In our last installment, we talked about
how relaxed things are in girls' schools, where the students go to the bathroom, blow their noses, and look sleepy
in class. There were also words to the effect of being off-guard when it comes to boys. Let's see what girls in
an all-girls school think of boys in the first place."Young Teachers Are Very Popular"
Q. Do you have a lot of male teachers?
Muto: Well, I've heard that girls' schools have a high percentage of them, but...
Takahashi: We have so many here.
Shibasaki: When a young one comes along, he gets really popular, with the girls squealing and all. They even chase after him.
Q. What about Valentine's Day?
Muto: We give valentines to friends in school, and maybe to teachers. That's about it.
Takahashi: Nobody else to give them to, after all.
Shibasaki: When school is all you know, you're not going to meet anybody.
Takahashi: When I was in grade school, I heard about a girl who was dating my cram school teacher.
Q. Are you curious about the boys in boys' schools?
Muto: I hate male students. Can't stand them. They're so stupid.
Takahashi: Don't a lot of girls' school students date fairly older guys, like 21 and up?
Shibasaki: There's a lot of grown-ups, it's true.
Muto: Does going to a girls' school make you lean toward older men?
Q. Do you like older men?
Muto: I can't stand male students. They're like little boys. And they have no tolerance.
Anno: In heart or in money?
Muto: In heart.
Anno: Heart?
Shibasaki: A friend of mine said it's nice to have a boyfriend in the same class as you during exams. The two of you study alone together for five hours or more. She seems to think that studying alone together means only about an hour of actual study.
All: Uh-HUH.
Shibasaki: Still, I hear that girls get a lot more college acceptances. Boys don't stand a chance.
"They Look So Cool When They Study"
Q. What do you think of the boys in cram schools?
Takahashi: They look so cool when they're studying.
Shibasaki: Everyone at my cram school gets along really well with everyone else.
Muto: The boys look like idiots to me.
Suganuma: There are some nice ones, though. There's plenty of nice ones among the kids I hang out with.
Muto: I don't understand male students.
Shibasaki: I talked to some at cram school, but they were pretty dumb.
Muto: There was one who was smart enough, but he talked like most of what he did was play around.
Q. What about people who go around in baggy pants?
Muto: What?! You mean there's still people who dress like that?
All: Oh, yes.
Muto: No way. I wouldn't stand for it.
Anno: Would Kimura Takuya (translator's note: a pop singer popular with women in Japan.--MH) do?
Muto: Not with me.
Murayama: Even he's a little dangerous-looking.
Muto: I have no interest in his hairstyle either. That long hair is a bad idea.
Anno: What about, say, Takizawa (Hideaki, another popular Japanese entertainer)?
Muto: I hate entertainers.
Shibasaki: I like them. I haven't seen Ozawa Kenji lately, but I liked him.
Anno: You don't care for Sorimachi Takashi either?
Murayama: I don't care for the type that gets stuck on himself.
Anno: I thought the drama series "GTO" was good, though.
Shibasaki: It was cool, wasn't it. I liked it.
Anno: The story it was based on was good.
Shibasaki: I like that author.
Muto: I didn't see it, so I can't say.
Q. Did you start thinking of boys as stupid since coming to a girls' school from junior high?
Muto: Well, let me see. Boys look like small children to me. Their growth seems stunted.
Shibasaki: You can't talk to them normally. You say "Good morning," and they say "Yo." Won't even look you in the eye.
Q. In college, you'll be together with the same boys you thought were stupid.
Shibasaki: I get the feeling there aren't any girls around me who say they'd like to go to a women's university.
Takahashi: I went to girls' schools in junior high and high school. It'd be bad for me to go to a women's university too.
