Subject: My introduction to the Sakura Taisen ML

Konnichiwa, minna-san! I'm a newcomer to the Sakura Taisen Mailing List. My name is Omar Lilas, and I'm a student at Georgia Perimeter College here in beautiful Lawrenceville, Georgia. I've been a major anime fan ever since my senior year of high school, and I've been a Sakura Taisen "dai-fan" for more than a year now. In fact, Sakura Wars was one of the only reasons I bought a Saturn in the first place. Let me start by telling the story of how I first got into Sakura Taisen. One day, while hanging out at House of Anime, (the greatest anime store in Georgia, if not the country) Chuck, one of the employees, told me about a game called Sakura Wars, saying it was probably the greatest game ever made for the Sega Saturn. Naturally, my curiosity was piqued, so I went to the Anime Web Turnpike to check it out. As luck would have it, I stumbled upon Ming's Sakura Wars Page. After reading all the info and strategy guides, watching a few Quicktime movies, and listening to the opening theme, I became quite intriuged. Eventually, I got a chance to watch fansubs of the first two Sakura Wars OVAs. After that, I was thoroughly hooked on Sakura Taisen.(and in the process, developed a taste for big band music) A while later, I showed all the net info on Sakura Wars to a friend of mine named Jim. (He has a Saturn too, BTW) He eventually rented the OVAs and got hooked too. We even started work on a Sakura Wars fanfic starrring two original characters we created. Shortly therafter, he got his hands on Sakura Wars and Sakura Wars 2 before I did, (the bastard!) and really started getting into the game. After getting a chance to play the game myself, it cinched my fandom. Currently, I am borrowing Sakura Wars 1 from Jim. I'm trying to get all the endings from my least favorite girl to my most favorite. So far, I have beaten the game with Sumire, Kanna, and Maria, in that order. (I also beat the game with Iris first time I played, but I erased the savefile.) Right now, I'm about to start working on Iris's ending again. After that, I'm going for Kouran, and finally Sakura. (Actually, Kouran's my most favorite, but since Sakura's the one that everyone's trying to snag, I'm going for her ending last.) I've only played Episode 1 against Sakura Wars 2. Jim, on the other hand, had only gotten Sakura's ending. Jim has also gotten his hands on the Sakura Wars and Sakura Wars 2 soundtracks, the OVA soundtrack, and the Ai Yueni audio drama. (I'm borrowing two of the soundtracks, too) Out of all the Hanagumi girls, my personal favorite is Kouran (with Iris following a close second), while Jim's favorite is Maria. We are still actively working on our fanfic, and we'll give you the profiles of our characters soon. I'm also hoping to get my hands on some more Sakura Wars stuff to expand my fandom and to show up Jim. And yes, I am eagerly anticipating Sakura Wars 3 on Dreamcast. I have some predictions and suggestions for the upcoming title. These will be in a future posting. And that, in a nutshell, is my fan story. Please feel free to give your comments. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are a few questions I have: I know that Quattro Stagioni (Soletta's sure-kill) means Four Seasons, but what does Das Rheingold (Leni's sure-kill) mean? Does anyone have a translation for the Ai Yueni audio drama, or know where I can find one? Are there any stores that still sell Sakura Wars 2, or any of the other Sakura Wars games? When the rest of you played Sakura Wars for the first time, which girl did you end up with at the end? I heard of a program that would let you watch the movie clips from the Sakura Wars game disc on your PC. Does anyone know anything about this? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, that's my introduction! Please respond as soon as possible! Until next time, Taisho sakura ni rouman no arashi! Omar Lilas
