Alfreed is the daughter of the patriarch of the Zotto Clan, a clan of bandits, and the younger sister of Merlein.

When Hirumes slaughters Alfreed's Clan with the help of his army, and she finds herself the last survivor, she endeavours to avenge her father, but to no avail. That is when Narcasse erupts onto the scene and helps her escape. Before her father died, he entrusted the Clan to her as his last request but it seems she has no Clan to command anymore.

Enfactuated by Narcasse, she will change her nomadic ways to be with him always, and will join Prince Arslan's followers as a sort of messenger and doer of small errands.

The very open way in which she claims to love Narcasse, and the fact that she calls herself his mistress, makes it very hard for her to get along with Eram, and they end up competing for his attentions. She does manage to forge a friendship with Farangis, and talks with her, asking for various advice, including about her love problems.
