I was originally going to review each book but it turned
out that every book was pretty even so I decided to review
the special stories instead. Each story is rated out of
three and is based on the humor, action and originality of
each story. If you don't agree with a score rate them
yourself. Its sometimes hard to decide what is a special
story and what's not. If I've left out a story please e-mail
me.
Action Kamen Vs Higule
Maou
Volume 6 Page 4
The story begins when Shinchan and his parents are in a
traffic Jam. Shinchan spots an Action Kamen fun house so he
begs his parents if he can go there. The admission is
outrageous (they even charge dogs) but they pay. Shinchan
stumbles across a mirror with Action Kamen painted on it but
he doesn't realize it's a mirror so he tries to get to
Action Kamen by running into the mirror. His parents notice
him and try to stop him but they run into the mirror as well
in the process of trying to save him. The mirror was a
actually a portal which transported Shinnosuke, his parents
and his dog in to the world of Action Kamen. When they
arrived they didn't know they had traveled to a new world so
they just thought everyone going crazy.
The world they had arrived on was being attacked by high
legged aliens, lead by a sorcerer named "Higule Maou". The
only person who can save them is Action Kamen (Shinchan's
favourite TV super hero, kind of like Power Rangers)
This story has some very good gags in it, but it is
difficult to explain it in word form.

Buli Buli Kingdom's Lost
Treasure
Volume 8 Page 91
When the White Snake Clan discover about a treasure so
great it is unimaginable, they immediately attempt to find
it. The key to the treasure are 2 boys which have the build
of Shinchan. The White Snake Clan kidnap Shinchan and the
prince of the Buli Buli Kingdom Price who looks exactly like
Shinchan.
After unlocking the door and passing pathetic obstacles,
the White Snake Clan, Shinnosuke and the prince enter the
treasure room. The treasure turns out to be a genie (which
resembles Buli Buli Zaemon) who grants one wish. The leader
of the White Snake Clan prepares to ask his wish but
Shinchan wishes for the signature of his favourite female
news reporter.
The anime version of this is much better I must admit
but, the manga version has more gags.

Dark Castle of
Unkokusai
Volume 11 Page 4
Another portal story, apparently an earthquake has bended
the time line and when Shinchan and his family fall through
a hole they end up in ancient Japan. It is hard to explain
this story because the funniest part of this story are the
names. For example "Un-koku-sai" sounds like "Unko-kusai"
which means "Smelly Poo". If you don't know Japanese it is
very hard to explain. Anyway Unkokusai is an evil sorcerer
who turns people into turds (poo, shit, manure, droppings).
The hero that saves the day is a woman but in the end they
find out she is a man.
I didn't really enjoy this story that much, it had a few
laughs, but the anime version was better.

Issunboshi
Volume 12 Page 4
This is based on a Japanese fairy tale called Issunboshi
(surprise, surprise). For those who aren't familiar with
Issunboshi, it is about a boy who is about the size of your
thumb who kills a monster, grows big and marries the
princess.
Well the variation was nice and it was pretty funny but
very predictable.

Kaguyahime
Volume 13 Page 14
Another Japanese fairy tale. Kaguyahime is about a little
girl who was found in a bamboo shoot. She was actually a
moon princess (happy all you Sailor Moon fans?) and had to
go back to the moon in the end. The thing is you've got the
original moon princess and also Shinchan who came from the
moon. The funniest part is in the end when Shinchan crashes
the moon ship.

Western, Cinderella, Little Red Riding
Hood
Volume 13 Page 63
These stories are short and sweet so I like them. Unlike
the 2 stories above you these are European fairy tales
(except for the western). The western is about Shinchan and
his father who are cowboys. Cinderella is a funny variation
of the classic fairy tale. The funniest story is Little Red
Riding Hood which is set in the future and LRRH's family is
really rich. They send Shinchan along with her to be her
body guard but LRRH doesn't want to wear the red hood. Her
mother forces her to, but later on she dumps the hood on
Shinosuke and runs away.

The classic Hans Christian Anderson story has been
translated into Shinchan style. When Shinchan lights up a
match from the match selling girl he can create anything but
it disappears when the light goes out. People see Shinchan
doing this and everyone buys the little match girl's
matches. The match selling girl is a actually a slave of 2
very rich mean people. The rich couple hire Shinchan but
they are unaware of what a toruble maker he is.

These ones are about as good as the first one. All the
stories seem to be pretty clear except for the last one
which is a Japanese fairy tale about how the turtle got its
cracks in its shell. These stories are sure to give you a
laugh.

Buli Buli Zaemon is a character which Shinchan created.
The character is a pig which is very lazy and reflects the
personality of Shinchan. The story is set in ancient Japan.

In this story Shinchan's father is a detective working
for the police. In the first story some terrorists invade a
cafe. Shinchan, his dad and a female kick boxer save the day
and Shinchan becomes a police man. His father gets really
mad because his father had to go through police academy and
Shinchan, a kindergarten student becomes a cop in one day.
In every story Shinchan gets promoted one rank to his
father's annoyance.

Buli Buli Zaemon's

This is a rather humerous sequel to the orginal Buli Buli
Zaemon. It is about a princess who is kidnapped and a sexy
heroin, Shinnosuke and Buli Buli Zaemon must rescue her. The
good thing about these Buli Buli Zaemon stories is that it
focuses on humour rather than action which I prefer in a
Shinchan story. I just can't get enough of Buli Buli Zaemon,
he rules!

Momo Taro, Flander's Little Dog,
Monkey

It seems like these story collections get better every
time.
Momo Taro is about a boy who is born from a Peach and
fights devils on Devil Island, it is a very famous Japanese
faitry tale. There is an incredibly strange twist in this
story, so strange that the next time you read the original
version you'll stop and think about this one.
Flander's Little Dog is suppose to be some famous story
but I've never heard of it. I think it is suppose to be a
really sad story but the Shinchan version just makes the
plot so crazy that if you don't laugh you'll prbably explode
holding it in.
Monkey is just a made up name that I called the story
because we have a TV show in Australia (0n Fox Tel) which is
based on the travels of Son Gokou and it is called monkey.
Monkey or 'Sai Yuuki' as they call it in Japan, is what
Dragon Ball is based on, hence the main character's name is
Gokou. It is a really short version of the really long
story.

better than this one. My favourite story in this collection
is Pinochio, Peter Pan is okay and the Prince of Happiness
is crap.

The same old stuff in the same old story. There were some
pretty good gags but I hope this is the last of the Buli
Buli Zaemon series. This story is quite predictable after
reading the two other Buli Buli Zaemon stories. I would have
given this story a 3 but I took a point off because its just
not as funny after reading the other 2.

Shinnosuke is a cop... again. The story is a sequel to
the previous story. This story is sure to give you a laugh
because the story is well thought out. Recently the stories
haven't been so great but Yoshito Usui is back with the
goods.

Yuki Onna, The Rabbit and Tortoise, 3
Arrorws, Ali baba and the forty thieves
Volume 18 Page 69
Usually story collections only contain 3 stories but this
time there are four.
Yuki Onna translates to Snow Woman, it is a famous
Japanese story. The varitation started off funny and was
more serious at the end.
We all know the rabbit and tortoise (also known as the
hare and the totoise). Very funny.
The 3 arrows is also a Japanese story. Once an ancient
Japanese warlord in the 17th century said "One arrow can be
broken with ease but three arrows combined is impossible to
break with two hands" to his three sons. Well the story is
about three pigs instead of three sons. This story is
probably my favourite story in this collection.
Ali baba is probably the story I liked the least. Some
good jokes at the beggining but after the first page it
wasn't funny.
