In the year 2015, when the world is recovering from "Second Impact", a catastrophe which melted the Antarctic ice, mysterious creatures known as "Angels" attack the fortress city Tokyo-3. At the 1889 Paris World's Fair, a boy named Jean-Locque L'Arteague meets Nadia, a girl with a mysterious blue crystal known as "Blue Water"... In the course of their search for the secrets of Nadia's origins, she and Jean encounter the crew of the all-powerful submarine Nautilus, and find themselves pursued by the secret society of "NeoAtlantis", who want Blue Water for themselves. The mysteries of Nadia and Blue Water are bound up in complex threads of destiny... In a future when mankind is branching out into the universe, Earth is threatened by gigantic space monsters. To fight this threat, the full resources of mankind are brought together to create the giant robot known as GunBuster. Takaya Noriko, who lost her father to the space monsters, is chosen as the pilot of GunBuster. To avenge her father, and for the survival of mankind, Noriko pilots GunBuster into battle against the space monsters.
