I think it was in ST2 and the geisha girls chapter that this was
mentioned. It was probably in ST1 as well, but I don't remember.

Yes, I know Shampoo doesn't speak "Osaka/Kansai-ben," but I've
noticed and been told that it's often stereotypical that Chinese
people speak some other type of Japanese dialect -> i.e. non-
standard Tokyo. This is not always true however. My point that it's
often a joke. I'm sure you know that Japanese people tend to think
that only native Japanese people can speak the language properly,
and that gaijin can't. Chinese = gaijin too (even though it's a term
more applied to Westerners).

True. I think a lot of anime has at least one character speaking
Kansai-ben. For example, Afuri Mann (El Hazard), one of the
characters in MI and UY, etc.
