Rae" <76174.1410@COMPUSERVE.COM> Subject: Leni/Reni>>Leni and Reni are interchangeable basically...since there is no L in the Japanese language...both are used, so Leni is acceptable.<< However, in all official RED publications, the guidebooks, and any time Reni's signature appears, it's "Reni"- which indicates that this is the way RED intends it to be spelled. Reni's name isn't Japanese; it's German (which is why it's in katakana), and RED has formally standardized how it's supposed to be printed and written. The katakana here serves as a phonetic pronunciation, not a "spelling". When an "official" version exists and you know the creator's intentions, the creator's version takes precedence. For example, nobody in Japan who knows me writes my name in Romaji as "Lichaado"- even though the katakana are "interchangeable"
