He is the son of a slave (one of the King's servants), but his father took him as his own and raised him alongside his legimate son, Gadevy, the son he had with his Queen. His possibilities of assention to the throne seemed low because of his mother's status, and the historical customs of Shindra, where slavery was accepted, and slaves seen as below free men. Although his status was lower, as far as human qualities go, he was superior to his brother, being more generous and more easygoing. This made him popular among the people and the simple soldiers (as opposed to officers). He boasted to whomever would listen that, because of his talents (what talents?) and good looks he would make an appropriate King. Although he is known more for being unable to hold his drink than for being a good prospective King. Karikara the second grew old and became sick. As he saw his end near, he had to choose a successor, but could not, because both his sons were fighting over the country as ruthlessly as if he was already dead. Rajendra, in need of reinforcements and ressources, seeing the trouble brewing in the neighbouring Kingdom of Pars, decided to attack the fortress closest to his borders, Peshwald, with his elephant-riding troops. Narcasse, warned of the emminent attack, prepared a strategy to defeat the Shindrans by sending rats in the rivers around Peshwald. Rajendra was defeated and taken prisoner by Eram and Alfreed. Brought to Prince Arslan, he agreed to sign a friendship treaty, in exchange for his help in securing the throne, which would be benificial for Pars, Gadevy being a ruthless ruler. In the decisive battle between him and his half-brother Gadevy, Rajendra made him attack first, to force his allies to join the battle (in the treaty Pars would only defend his ally, not join forces in an attack), and Arslan sent one regiment of knights and horsemen. The battle was halted by the arrival of the Shindran High Priest, with news of the King's death and his decision to leave the choice of his successor to the will of the Gods. In a duel before the Gods, Rajendra tricked Arslan into accepting to send Darun to fight on behalf of his ally, and against a half-beast man named Bahadoru. Arslan found out in the middle of the fight that Rajendra knew of the adversary, knew of the fact that he felt no pain and was virtually unbeatable. Finally losing his temper with his new ally, Arslan threatened to kill him if any harm came to Darun. Luckily for Rajendra, Darun won the duel and he became King of Shindra. His first act as King was to give Arslan a favour for his help in securing the thronw. To which Arslan answered to abolish slavery in the Kingdom forever.
