OVERVIEW:	Seele was furious about losing the spear and with Gendou using it without permission and they were discussing it with Gendou when the 16th Angel appeared. The 16th angel was hovering above Tokyo-3 when Rei was sent to intercept. When the angel noticed her presence, it attacked her and infected her, Shinji was sent to help Rei when Rei sense that Shinji will be infected too unless she does something and that something was to self destruct her Eva-00, with a part of the Angel lock in her Eva, the angel was destroyed when it exploded and taking the whole Tokyo-3 with her as well, water gushed inside Geofront. The next scene we see a Rei (3rd clone of Rei) meeting a suprised Shinji and later we see that Rei untie her bondage to reveal no injuries what soever .Seele sensed the treachery of Gendou and to stir-up trouble at Nerv they punished Ritsuko and send her back to Nerv. Ritsuko feeling betrayed by Gendou called Shinji to come to Nerv and the next scene we see Misato pointing a gun at Ritsuko, asking her to reveal everything that she knows. Ritsuko showed Shinji and Misato the true nature of the Eva and also the true nature of Rei. Later Ritsuko killed all the clones in front of the eyes of Shinji and Misato and was later court-martialed by Gendou.
DETAILED SUMMARY:	The scene opens with Misato playing the answering machine with Kaji's message over and over again in her room and Shinji looking at the bedroom door of Misato with a note that says "IM BUSY, sorry but please dont disturb". Shinji then went to Asuka's door and looked at the note in it that says "DO NOT ENTER WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. IF YOU DO I WILL KILL YOU! Eintritt Verbeter!". Shinji then whispered to himself "I guess Asuka wont come back tonight also." Meanwhile Asuka is in Hikari's room playing a TV game and Hikari looking worriedly at Asuka, for the past several days Asuka has not been to school, she has been playing all day and all night. When she gets tired playing she sleeps. One night when Hikari and Asuka were in bed, Asuka apologize "Sorry for being a bother", Hikari replied "No, you're not a bother at all". Asuka always avoiding the face of Hikari said "I hate everybody, but you know I hate myself the most". She continued "I wasnt able to defeat the Angel and now I cant pilot an Eva, I have lost my purpose in life...". Hikari tried to comfort "I think you have done more than your share." Back at Nerv headquarters, a major meeting of Seele is taking place and Gendou is being confronted with questions "why he used the Longinus Spear" despite the fact the Eva series is not yet completed. Gendou cooly replied "The destruction of the angel was top priority". Keele, head of Seele replied "Are you trying to betray us?". Just at that moment Fuyutsuki called Gendou informing him that the 16th angel has appeared from nowhere right on top of Tokyo-3. Gendou excused himself and asked for the meeting to be postponed but Keele sarcastically answered "If you still remain one of us". Misato is racing toward Nerv and issuing instructions thru the phone. Eva-00 was immediately launched and Misato ordered Eva-02 to stand-by. Gendou belated that order and ordered Eva-02 launched, Makoto tried to argue that Asuka seems to be unable to synchronize with the robot. Gendou replied "I dont care, she can be of use as a decoy". Asuka was inside Eva-02 and whispering to herself "Why am I back here again? Well, I dont care anymore." Misato arrived at the central command and Ritsuko said "You're late!". Misato ignored the sarcasm and asked what the situation is. Makoto answered "Eva-00 is ready to fire, the Angel's pattern is shifting from blue to orange, MAGI seems to unable to decipher what the nature of the angel is." Ritsuko answered "It seems its not perfectly solid". Rei whispered "Its going to attack" and that moment the thread like angel attack Eva-00 and easily penetrated the AT field of Eva-00. Rei tried to hit it with her rifle but it has no effect. The angel then infected Eva-00 and consequently penetrated the body of Rei. Rei is feeling both pain and pleasure. Maya informed Misato that the angel is organically combining with Eva-00 and Rei and now at 5% penetration. Misato ordered Eva-02 to battle, Misato instructed Asuka to get the Palette Gun and fire but Eva-02 wont move. Misato shouted "Asuka, You are in battle, what's wrong?". Asuka was crying "It wont move!". Maya shouted "Asuka's synchronization rate is below 10!". Misato asked that Eva-02 be returned to base. Meanwhile Rei during the penetration attack met the angel in the form of another Rei waist deep in LCL somewhere in her consciousness. Rei said to Rei "Who are you?". Rei answered "Do you want to be one with me?" Rei replied "No, I am who I am, and you are what you are" Rei sadly retorted "Really? But its to late, I will share my heart with you, I will share my feelings with you, it hurts doesnt it, the heart knows a lot of pain". Rei answered back"No no pain just sadness". Rei smiled"You dont want to be alone right, we call that sadness." Rei woke up from her dillusion and was suprised to see herself crying tears. Rei slowly looked at the tears in her lap and said "Are this tears, Am I crying?" Gendou seeing that Eva-00 is in a hopeless state ordered Eva-01 launched. The Angel immediately noticed Eva-01 and started to attack it destroying the palette gun of Shinji. Rei noticed that she has blended with the Angel and the Angel is going after Shinji because she wants to be one with Shinji. Rei then gave a stern face and said "No". At that instant she allowed full AT field around them and hold down the Angel for full penetration and activated the auto-destruct sequence of Eva-00. Maya shouted "The core has reached critical mass. It will blow anytime!". In less than a minute Rei was surrounded by a white light and just before death she saw the smiling kind face of Gendou and her eyes were flowing with tears. Eva-00 exploded with intensity so much so that it took the whole Tokyo-3 with her and the sea invaded Geofront. Only Eva-01 stands unharmed in the devastation. Misato was in tears again. With the lost of Eva-00 following the lost of the Longinus Spear, Seele was discussing the removal of Gendou as Commander-in-chief of Nerv. They also discussed about the promised time as stated in the Dead Sea scrolls are at hand with the death of the 16th Angel and with only one last Angel remaining to be defeated. Meanwhile Shinji was just idling away in his room when Misato tried to comfort him by holding his hand. Shinji turned away and said "Stop it. Misato-san". Misato apologized and went to Pen-pen. "Come Pen-pen" She said but Pen-pen did not move. She then returned back to her room when she received a call saying that Rei is alive. Both Shinji and Misato raced toward Nerv. When Shinji and Rei were alone Shinji said "Im glad that you are alive, Thanks for helping me". "Help?". "For self-destructing your Eva and saving my life.""You mean I helped you?" "yes, dont you remember?" Rei then said softly "No, I dont, probably because I am the 3rd person". Rei then went back to her room in the housing projects outside Tokyo-3. She removed the bandage covering her head to reveal no scratch what so ever, she then noticed the glass of Gendou and started to compress to crash it but instead tears came out of her eyes. She whispered "This is the first time I saw this and yet I feel it isnt the first time, Are this tears? Why am I crying?". When Seele discovered that Rei was a clone, Gendou informed Seele that it was all Ritsuko's idea and Seele punished Ritsuko for not informing them of the true nature of Rei and suprisingly sent here back to Nerv. Ritsuko feeling betrayed called Shinji to come to Nerv headquarters. Meanwhile Misato was listening to the voice recording of Kaji as he explains that the capsule containing a micro-chip holds one of the secrets of Nerv. She inserted it in her laptop and after a while she took her gun and Nerv card out and went to Nerv Headquarters. The next scene we see Misato pointing the gun to Ritsuko, at the same time Shinji appeared. Ritsuko promised to reveal everything if Misato allows Shinji to come. They went first to where Rei was first cloned and this suprised Shinji, then they went to the graveyard of hundreds of Eva robot skeletons, the failed proto-types. Finally they went to the dummy-plug tank of LCL where hundreds of Rei clones float in it. This shocked Shinji even more. Shinji said "Ayaname Rei ?" and hundreds of eyes of Rei looked at Shinji and smiled. Ritsuko explained the real nature of Eva and the need for dummy pilots and the real nature of Rei. Misato argued the ethical points of the dummy-plug and Ritsuko smiled "That is why I am destroying it" and in front of the eyes of Shinji, hundreds of Rei clones dissolved turning the yellow LCL to deep red. Misato pointed the gun to Ritsuko and ordered her to stop. The usually cool Ritsuko burst into tears and anger and refused to stop, she confesses about her true nature and says "Im like a fool like my mother". She then begged Misato to shoot her but Misato pulled down her weapon and whispered to herself "Im just like you". After this episode Shinji started to really hate his father, more hate than the one his father did to Touji.
CHECKPOINT:	Notice that when Misato locked herself in her room to listen to Kaji's message, cans of empty coffee cans are scattered about her feet, indicating she had stopped drinking beer and could be in her withdrawal period. The 16th Angel actually released the emotions of Rei and made her more human by sheding tears Ritsuko is not a natural blond lady, she changed her hair color during her highschool years as shown in the picture of Gendou, Naoko and Ritsuko. The reason why the pilots of Eva are referred as "children" because the "first children" are clones but Asuka and Shinji seems to be real humans. In this episode we discovered that Seele doesnt know that Rei is actually a clone and only Gendou, Fuyutsuki, Ritsuko and Maya knows about it. Seele was intent of making 12 Eva Robots excluding Eva-00 to Eva-04, in this episode 8 units were already finished as discussed in one of Seele's conference but between this episode and the movie, eventually only 9 Eva Robots were built.
TRIVIA:	The screen reads "OBJECT: 16th ANGEL BLOOD TYPE: BLUE LIVE DIRECT CONNECTION No. 015" The coffee that Misato drinks is UCC COFFEE. Hikari's house is located in a hill. Rei's computer entry plug reads "DRIVE A MODE: D" The hospital ward is in Deck-6 and Deck-5 of Geofront. Rei was artificially cloned at ARTIFICIAL EVOLUTION LABORATORY ANNEX No. 3
BLOPPERS:	Believe it or not but the Sega game hardware that Asuka was playing is the same 32-bit hardware Sega that I have in my room. I was thinking that maybe after 18 years, the game industry would have improved. What is worst is that the controls are not even wireless! Gendou has ordered the Eva-02 launched earlier why is it that when Misato ordered Eva-02 to battle it was not yet launched? Do I sense a gap somewhere in the chain of command? The torched entry-plug of Eva-00 was discovered in a forest where the trees was knocked down but not burned. With that explosion and intensity why is the broken entry-plug found in an unscorched place.
