First, let me just say, would everyone who's pissed at Red just calm down
^_^;;;;Okay, I've done my little reasearch on the net and tried to get my hands
on any info on this matter (chinese/japanese hps, newsgroup, SoJ's BBS), and
this is what I've came up with (please correct me if you think I'm
wrong):Shoichiro Irimajiri and/or Sega apparently still has a large share in ST
and CAN prevent ST from coming out on other platforms (note here is "coming
out", but not "development for"). Shoichiro Irimajiri suggested that he will
let ST be release on the GBC if Nintendo will make the GBC linkup-able to the DC
in return. This bit of infomation is common on all the places that I've
visited, so I think it is quite reliable piece of infomation. Now, many people
(even Warps' president) interpreted this as Shoichiro Irimajiri making a
unreasonalbe compromise (in the view of Nintendo) so as to make Nintendo to back
out on its plans. And even if Nintendo do agree to this term, then Sega would
not lose in this deal (at least not in the long run) as the Gameboy holds THE
majority of the hand held market. Making (forcing?) the GBC link-up able with
the DC could mean opening up a new market, and boost up DC sales, which I think
is the top piority of Sega right now.
And now news had said that announcement had been made for ST on GBC, this
suggested that Nintendo had agreed upon Shoichiro Irimajiri's requirement, to
make GBC linkup-able to the DC. And the ST titles being developed for the GBC
is a ST spin-off, and a new version of Hanagumi Columns.

Well, I would not under-estimate the potential of GBC. The GBC version of
Tokimeki Memorial was recently released. If you've played Tokimeki Memorial
before, you'll know that voice is also a integral part of Tokimemo, especially
since Tokimemo had been release on almost all the other recent platforms (PSX,
SNES, SS, Win95/98), the GBC version had a lot to live up to. From a few
reviews I've read about the GBC Tokimemo, nobody had said anything particular
negative about it, then the surprise came when the reviewers said that, although
not a lot, there WERE voices in certain part of the game (hell, AFAIK, even the
SNES version didn't have voices)! And from screen shots seen in magazines, the
graphics were pretty good, you won't believe they were the graphics from a
Gameboy. So even if ST is on the GBC, IMO it would not be as bad as you would
think. As for Red's moves, I think if Red was to really screw with Sega, they
would release ST for the PSX, then it would be in direct competition. And the
way I see it, for Red to push ST on the hand held market, the only other choice
that is avaialbe to them is thru the Neo Geo Pocket, since the NGP is the only
hand held system so far to be linkup-able to the DC, and Sega has yet to reveal
plans on their own hand held systems (which I doubt if they will ever release
one anyway). So it makes GB the only logical choice. Or they could just ditch
the plan altogether (which I think is what some ppl on this list wants). But
with GB games still frequently making into the top 10 selling titles in Japan,
in any businessman's view, this is too great of a market to lose......
Phew, that was a long message. Comments, corrections, and flames are welcome
