The poll suggests that about
58% of the show's fans are teenage girls. This is by far
the largest group in the audience and over twice as many as the
second largest group, adult
men, who number 23%. The anime series is not very popular
among teenage boys - 10% is
not much when teenage boys make up the majority of anime
fans. The smallest group is adult women- 9%, but since
there aren't many adult women in otakudom in the first place,
one can say that the series is pretty popular among adult women,
too.
The favorite character
poll suggests that Tenjou Utena is
the most popular character in the anime series. Since she is the
protagonist, that is very natural. Some people may find it
surprising that Arisugawa Juri is in the
second place- she is actually very popular, due to her 'tragic'
nature which seems to attract many who find Utena's less
troubled personality harder to identify with. Juri is here even
more popular than the second main character, Himemiya Anthy.
Sometimes it is hard to find reasons why you like someone, but
usually it is easy to find reasons to dislike someone. The least favorite character
poll looks very natural, and the reasons those characters
were listed is quite apparent. Certain characters in Utena seem
easier to dislike than others, so it's no surprise that Ohtori Akio is in first place for this
category.
It's also interesting to note that no male fans disliked Takatsuki Shiori enough to vote her a
least favorite character- and only two of them chose Kiryuu Nanami for least favorite
female. Ah yes, men are so stupid they will fall for pretty,
wicked girls...
Another interesting point is that Dios
is only popular with female fans (favorite characters of female
fans). Hmm, do girls do dream of meeting Prince Charming
some day after all?
The favorite song poll
suggests that the OP theme song Rinbu -
Revolution is the most popular song. Yes, it's such a great
song, isn't it? Incidentally this song also took the 20th Anime
Grand Prix award by Animage readers in Japan recently for 'Best Anime
Song'. As for the ED song, while some people like Truth, others dislike it. Regarding the
duel choruses, it seems fan preferences here really vary.
The favorite episode poll
overwhelmingly suggests the final
episode, #39, is the preferred winner. That must be good
news if you haven't seen the ending yet. You won't be
disappointed. Episode 8 is the most
popular among the comic relief stories.
