X - The Destiny War- -- Rabi's X Page

X the movie, directed by Rin Tarou, is the first of CLAMP's work made into a full length animation film. The character design and the overall art director is Nobuteru Yuuki, who was famous for his artwork for Record of Lodoss War. The theme song "Forever Love" is written and performed by X JAPAN. (More info can found on the music section of this homepage.)

The special edition of the LD has been released in Japan on March 25, 1997. The deadline ordering for this edition was January 20, 1997. I don't think it is produced anymore. If you want to buy this special edition of the LD, try your luck at mailorder stores over the internet. The LD box comes with 2 CAV LaserDiscs, a 64-page memorial book featuring interviews, screen shots, etc. It also contains three pieces of LD-size artwork drawn by CLAMP. I'm not sure about the VHS version. Ken Masters scanned in the awesome art from the X movie LD Box and can be found on his X the Anime page. I heard that Manga Entertainment has bought the U.S. right of the X movie. Does that mean we should be expecting a release in the U.S. soon?

James Kao had made scans of the X Movie Program Guide but the site has been taken down. It's a 18-page "guide" for those who saw the movie in theaters in Japan which consists of introduction, story outline, character descriptions, etc... It costs 500¥. The cover is Kamui with a Black wing and a white wing holding the earth. The back cover has a picture of Fuuma and Kotori.

I have also included a radio interview regarding the X movie, which was broadcast in Japan the day before the movie was released. Much thanks to Tomo-san for writing up the summary. Hey, it contains a little spoiler for the manga as well! Included here is also a brief non-spoiler review for this movie that Tomoko wrote.

X the Movie is also the feature article of Vol 2 Issue 4 of EX.

There is also a Film Comic made from the movie. Please check the books info section for details.

The final battle of the Earth begins in the year 1999. Who will determine the fate of the Earth? The "Dragons of Heaven" or the "Dragons of Earth"?

The Story of the Movie

(loosely translated from the Program Guide)

Kamui returns to Tokyo in 1999 in order to learn about his future -- because he needs to keep a promise he has made with "someone important to him".

"Go back to Tokyo, Kamui. Your future is waiting for you..."

These were the last words of Kamui's mother who died in flames. Having not known who his father is, Kamui's two other "persons that are important to him" are his childhood friends -- Fuuma Monou and Kotori Monou -- the only two whom he wishes to protect... With this in mind, Kamui returns to Tokyo.

However, at the same time, the final battle of the fate of the Earth between the "Dragons of Heaven" and the "Dragons of Earth" has already begun.

The "Dragons of Heaven" who create kekkais, want to protect the Earth, while the "Dragons of Earth" who destroy kekkais, wish for the Earth's rebirth. Any acts of destruction occured inside the kekkais created by the "Dragons of Heaven" will not affect the real world, unless if the person who creates the kekkai dies. The kekkai becomes useless, i.e. all damages turn into real ones.

Danger was also chasing after Fuuma and Kotori. One of the "Dragons of Earth" tried to attack them with underground cables. But Kamui arrived at the scene just in time to save them.

The instant when Kamui and Fuuma's eyes met, something strange happened. They seemed to be in a different dimension (dream) where Hinoto, the dreamgazer who was gathering the "Dragons of Heaven", tried to make contact with Kamui. With the power of foreseeing the future, Hinoto asked Kamui, whose name can mean "the majesty of God", to join the "Dragons of Heaven" to save the Earth. However, Kamui returned his answer coldly,

"I don't care about the future of the Earth. I have other things that I want to protect."

Kamui came out of Hinoto's dream, and was happy to see Fuuma and Kotori again. But this time, stood in front of them, was Kanoe, the dreamgazer who gathered the "Dragons of Earth". Kamui was also wanted by the "Dragons of Earth" as Kamui possessed the power of God. Kamui broke into a fight with the "Dragons of Earth". But Kanoe's target was some other persons who were important to Kamui...

Later, Kamui paid a visit to Hinoto. However, there he was shown the dream of the future, one that was so cruel to him.

In the dream, Kamui saw Kotori's body being tied to a cross by numerous wires. Suddenly, someone standing on the cross thrusted a sword through Kotori! And to his surprise, the one who did this to his lover was -- Kamui himself!!

Kamui was shocked. He screamed and could not believe what he saw!

Can Kamui change the future -- the fate?
