ayashi no ceres is the story of aya mikage and her twin brother aki, driven apart by the forces of fate. on their sixteenth birthday, aya and aki are called to the family home to be given a special present. what they thought was a birthday party, however, was really a test--one which aya failed. she was found to possess the reincarnated spirit of an ageless tennyo, one bent on the recovery of her hagoromo and the destruction of the mikage family. aya quickly found herself separated from her beloved brother, and hunted by her own family.

ayashi no ceres is a shoujo comics manga series by yuu watase, creator of the popular anime/manga fushigi yuugi. if you're new to the series, feel free to look around--we have a character guide, image gallery, and a wide list of links to other anc pages. you can also join the anc mailing list and fire off a few questions--someone will be happy to answer them.

ayashi no ceres is has finished its biweekly run in shogakukan's shoujo komikku magazine, often referred to as "shokomi", and is reprinted in compilation volumes called tankoubon. although the shokomi periodical is aimed at girls of junior high to high school age, this can be misleading--due both to the fact that japanese culture often differs drastically from american culture in what they consider suitable for children, and due to the fact that yuu watase tends to write more mature stories than are usually featured in shokomi. situations involving violence, death, profanity, and sex are present to one degree or another, tackling many of the issues that girls of that age often run into.

with that being said, ayashi no ceres, like many of yuu watase's other works, trancends the genre in which it was created. although geared towards teenage girls, the series is highly intelligent, and easily mature enough to be enjoyed by men and women of all ages. although ayashi no ceres is unique unto itself, fans of fushigi yuugi will recognize elements familiar to them, and are certain to enjoy it.
