Prototype(EVA-00)


Assigned pilot: Rei Ayanami

The prototype of Evangelion, which was built to find out whether the E-project, or creation of the Evangelion series was feasible.

Even though this type was created as an experimental Evangelion, EVA-00 was built to be utilized in the actual combat.

However, the first children, Rei Ayanami, spent 7 months synchronizing with EVA-00. Therefore, this type is not still utilized to its full design capacity.

In the first episode, EVA-00 was in suspension, because of the accident during the boot experiment of EVA-00. In this accident, the pilot, Rei Ayanami was seriously wounded, and the commander of Nerv, Gendoh Ikari suffered burns to his hands to save the pilot.

When the 5th angel attacks, EVA-00 was thrown into actual fight. The first task was to defend Evangelion Unit 1. However, during the first operation, EVA-00 was heavily damaged.

Later in the episode, the armor and the equipment of EVA-00 were replaced, and internal modifications were made as well. This replacement improved the stability of booting process. In addition, the coloring of the body was changed from Orange to Blue.

Later, during the compatibility testing with Shinji Ikari, EVA-00 went berserk. The cause is still under investigation.
