All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku

Dead kitties are just no fun...         What do you get when you cross the brain of a cat with an android's body? In this case you get a girl named Nuku Nuku who has 9 lives and 900 horsepower. When his son's new found pet cat is mortally wounded in an accident, brillant inventor Kyuusaku Natsume saves it in the only way he knows how. He transfers its brain into his experimental prototype android chasis and creates the big sister his son never had. Now Ryuunosuke hasn't lost a pet, but has gained a sibling and body guard. Something which he'll need as he and his father are on the run from Ryuu's mother, Akiko.
Seems Akiko's grandfather owns Mishima Heavy Industries which makes, among other things, equipment for the military. Kyuu used to work for MHI, but split with his son when he learned the purpose his experimental androids were ultimately going to be put to. Now Ryuu finds himself in the middle of the mother of all custody battles as Akiko makes ample use of the military hardware she has access to along with her two assistants Arisa and Kyouko.I've got you now! And your little kitty too! Two so-called office ladies with unorthodox training which is heavy on tactics and light on filing. As for Nuku Nuku herself, well, she's just trying to fit in and be as human as she can for having a cat's brain and a propensity to chase mice and lay in the sun.
The Japanese title for this series is Bannou Bunka Nekomusume and there seems to be a lot of debate over how exactly that translates into English. The literal translation is Almighty Culture Catgirl and from there you'll find all manner of interpretations of what it should be ranging from Super Catgirl Nuku Nuku to All Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku, the latter being the name A.D. Vision is using on it's releases here in the States. Arguments about the exact title aside, the anime was created as an OAV series six episodes long. The domestic releases have two episodes per tape and come in subtitled format only.
A brand new TV series featuring Nuku starting airing in Japan in January. Early reviews from folks who have seen the new series are mixed with some saying it appears to be another "fight of the week" show. Which isn't necessarily bad as long as you don't mind little to no character development. No word yet from the folks at A.D. Vision on any plans to bring the series Stateside, but we will continue to pester them until they say either way on it.

Good Rating Les' Review:

Catgirl Nuku Nuku is a silly bit of science fiction worthy of a look from anyone who likes cute girls capable of taking out attack helicopters. The animation quality is high and the artwork is nicely done. The stories are enjoyable and there's little that could be considered objectionable so small kids watching it shouldn't be a problem. Beyond the wounding of the cat in the first episode no one else seems to suffer anything in the way of serious injuries despite the amount of property destruction that takes place. I refer to this as being a "Lite Snack Anime" meaning that what little that's available is pretty satisfying, but won't leave you hungering for more like Oh My Goddess! does.

Good Rating Hairboy's Review:

I thought this was fun and entertaining to watch, but I would not bother buying any of the tapes. There isn't enough character development in the tape I saw (the first one), and nothing to make me want to watch it again. I watched this tape about a month ago and all that stands out in my memory is that it was pretty to look at and offered some fun but not much else. If it were a TV show I would probably watch it in hopes that it would develop into something more substantial.
