TCO isn't the only source on the net for the latest info on anime and it's related topics. There are a number of other zines all with the same goal of providing you with the best information on new releases and industry news. It's always a good idea to seek out more than one opinion and with that in mind we present the following list of other zines worth checking into.
If you're fluent in German, say you actually live there (we do get a few hits from Germany), and want to know what's going on with Anime in Germany then you can't go wrong by stopping by Neo A.M.I.'s site. With news, reviews, editorials and everything else you'd expect in a good Zine. Not being fluent in German myself I can't comment much on the content, but the site design looks good and the info is plentiful. So if you know German then check them out and then drop us a note and let us know what you think.
EX is currently the best online zine you can hope to find for coverage of anime and manga both Stateside and back in Japan. The content is great with several contributors who are involved directly with the anime industry. This is the stuff the hard-core fans love and if you find yourself falling into that catagory then you can't go wrong with a visit to this site.
Put out by the folks at Viz Video, J-Pop.com is a great site for learning more about not just anime and manga, but Japanese pop culture overall. You'll find an online store here offering a wide range of videos and other anime related items. If you want to learn more about Japanese pop culture then this is a good place to start. I particularly like to check out their interviews with popular Japanese musical acts. Alas, as of late they've been really lax in updating this page. It can be months between updates and even then only one section or another will receive new info. Still worth stopping by occasionally and not a bad spot to order Viz products from.
The reason J-Pop.com probably isn't updated as often as it used to be is the simple fact that Viz has finally gotten a mini-version of it's popular print magazine, Animerica, online. More of a supplement to the print magazine than a true online zine, this site still has some interesting bits worth checking out.
Otaku Illustrated is a very slick, if somewhat confusing to get around, online zine devoted to everybody's favorite topic. Featuring video and CD reviews, tips and tricks on modifying domestic toys and action figures to resemble anime characters, and lots more. To say these folks take their name, literally "Obsessive Fan Illustrated", quite seriously is an understatement. This is the perfect Zine for folks who find TCO a little too laid back. Figuring out site navigation is tricky at first, but the truly otaku will find it worth their while to do so. In many ways the unusual interface is appropriate to the audience the zine is aimed at. Check it out.
On top of writing the occasional piece for Animerica, Mike Toole has started his own online zine called Anime Jump. It's got the standard issue anime reviews you'd expect to find along with fun stuff you wouldn't such as the Hilarious Bootleg Toy of the Month which showcases just how low some toy makers will go to cash in on a popular title. For a one man operation this zine is updated pretty regularly which is a feat in it's own right worth checking out.
