Holiday at
Aopulco
(Episode 18)
After escaping the sinking of the St. Anne, the Island of Giant Pokemon, and the clutches of the Rocket Gang, Satoshi and his companions find their way to the resort town of Aopulco, and settle down to a well-deserved vacation. But Musashi, Kojiro, and Nyase are still intent on making life miserable for the young trainers; Satoshi and the others have a run-in with them (pun intended) and accidentally destroy a dock belonging to a old fellow by the name of Ryu. Ryu doesn't make enough money from his business, a seaside restaurant, to repair the dock, but Satoshi enlists the aid of his Pokemon and his friends to help make a little extra money.

At the same time, the Rocket Gang is enlisted by an old hag who happens to be the cousin of Nastina (from the English Episode 19: Tentacool and Tentacruel). Nyase uses every trick in his arsenal to sabotage Ryu's operation, and Ryu loses hope that he'll be able to rebuild his dock. Suddenly, Professor Ookido and Satoshi's mom pay a surprise visit; they bring news of a swimsuit competition where they might be able to get enough money to repay Ryu. Kasumi enters the show, but she is quickly eclipsed in the competition by Musashi and Kojiro (the latter of whom is wearing an inflatable body suit); they, in turn, are put to shame by none other than... Shigeru's cheerleading squad!

The competition degrades into a battle as the Rocket Gang, sore losers as always, launch an attack on the show. Shigeru generously lets Satoshi fight them off, and as usual, the Rocket Gang (and the old gang) get royally trounced. The winner of the competition ends up being Satoshi's mom, and Satoshi and the others manage to pay back Ryu for the damages. Satoshi and his mother, along with Professor Ookido, say their goodbyes, and then Satoshi is off on his journey to become the world's best Pokemon master once again...

Legend of
the Miniryu
(Episode 35)
While still wandering through the Safari Zone, Satoshi and his friends come upon the Warden's cabin. The Warden is an unfriendly fellow with a quick trigger finger, but in his younger days, he was famous for having found one of the rarest of Pokemon; Miniryu, the water dragon Pokemon. Despite the Warden's violent temper, Satoshi and the others get some Safari Balls and a few other tools with which to legally catch some of the Safari Zone's Pokemon. Of course, the Rocket Gang wants a piece of the action; the Warden drives them away with his fast temper and faster pistols, but not for long...

Satoshi and Takeshi roam the plains in search of Pokemon; they get lucky and manage to catch a couple of Kentauros, but Satoshi has little luck after that, and no matter what he tries to catch, a herd of Kentauros intercepts his ball and he catches another one... ^_^; Meanwhile, the Rocket Gang ambushes the Warden in his cabin; they try to extract the information as to Miniryu's whereabouts through torture... and what torture it is, too. Nyase singing!... (shudder)

Kasumi tries her hand at fishing, with the same bad luck as her compatriots. The Warden finds them there, still trapped in one of Nyase's devious torture devices... a tickling machine. Satoshi frees him, and the Warden tells them that the Rocket Gang learned of where Miniryu was hiding; he leads them there himself. Having unsuccessfully tried once already to catch Miniryu, the Rocket Gang hatch a plan to knock out the Pokemon in Miniryu's lake with explosives, just as the others arrive.

Satoshi and the Warden dive in to stop the explosion; the Warden can't go far enough, but Satoshi reaches the bomb, only to run out of air. He gets rescued, however, by Hakuryu, the evolved form of Miniryu. The Rocket Gang fall victim to their own ploy and get blown away again... the Warden is reunited with his old friend Hakuryu, who evolved from the Miniryu he met so long ago. The Miniryu in the lake is Hakuryu's child, and everyone is happy that both are safe. Satoshi and his friends leave the Warden and the Safari Zone in peace, but not before he sends all of his captured Kentauros back to Professor Ookido... much to Ookido's dismay...

Electric
Soldier
Polygon
(Episode 38)
Satoshi and his friends are traveling when Pikachu complains that he wants to rest. They bring Pikachu to a Pokemon Center, where they find out that it's having problems because the monster-ball teleporter's out of order, causing them to get mixed-up along the way. The kids later go to the mansion of professor Akihabara, the one who created the teleporter system, to investigate the cause of the problems, and they get caught by the professor who forces them to enter an oversized monster-ball transporter! While they're trapped, he explains that he found out that some "strange people" broke into his mansion, stole the prototype for a CG-Pokemon, Polygon, went into the computer network and blocked the information highway that carries monster-balls to their destination. Before they could protest, Akihabara sends a non-prototype version of Polygon to help them, and transports them into the network.

Satoshi and the others appear through a worm-hole in the computer system, but unfortunately the hole was several feet from the "ground". Polygon enlarges itself and flies down to save the kids and Pikachu, and as they're flying over the network, they see what's causing the monster-ball mix-up; the strange people are the Rocket Gang (gee, what a surprise), who've set up roadblocks on the highway to block the flow of monster-balls. Musashi and Kojiro send Matadogas and Arbok to fight Polygon, but Polygon counters by mimicking Matadogas's smog attack; they then send the prototype Polygon to fight Satoshi's Polygon, and while the fight's going, the kids and Pikachu try to remove the barricades blocking the highway.

Meanwhile, back at the Pokemon Center, Dr. Joy (the pink-haired nurse) hired a computer consultant to put an anti-virus in the system, which unfortunately can't tell the difference between computer code and human beings. The Rocket Gang gets hit by the anti-virus program, taking out their Polygon, and Satoshi and the others manage to save them before the anti-virus attacks them again. (Musashi: "I'm a human, not a computer virus! Help!!!") Everyone manages to escape in the nick of time thanks to Pikachu, but Akihabara's lab gets blown up in the process, destroying the human-sized transporter. Oh well. ^_^

Pikachu
Forest
(Episode 39)
This episode first aired on April 16th, 1998 in Japan, and was the first new episode to be shown after the seizures accident. The English version was aired on November 20th, 1998 in the United States, after 4Kids Entertainment declared the English Pokemon release to be a complete success.

While travelling through the forest, Satoshi and his friends discover a pack of Pikachus. Satoshi's Pikachu is overjoyed, but when he tries to make friends with the others, they run away. It seems that these Pikachus are afraid of humans and tame Pokemon (but since when has Pikachu ever been considered tame?); even when Pikachu manages to win the trust of a few of them, Satoshi's presence frightens them away.

One of the baby Pikachus follows them, however, and falls into a river. Pikachu dives in to save him, and both are saved by the Pikachu pack. Now that Pikachu is a hero, the others take him in gladly, and Satoshi lets him stay with the others, despite his own worries and loneliness. In the night, the entire pack, including Pikachu, is captured by the Rocket Gang in a electricity-proof net. They almost escape, too; Pikachu chews his way out of the net, however, and distracts the Rocket Gang long enough to let Satoshi and the others rescue the pack. Pikachu deals with the Rocket Gang, and he becomes a true hero to the pack.

Satoshi, on the other hand, comes to a difficult decision; since Pikachu is so happy with his fellow Pokemon, he decides to leave him behind. Takeshi and Kasumi are startled, and when Pikachu comes out to ask what Satoshi's doing, he tells Pikachu that he'd be happier with the others than with him. Satoshi runs away, leaving his best friend behind in shock...

As he runs, he remembers all the good times, and not-so-good times, he had with his friend Pikachu. From the time they first met... to the battles they fought long after... and all the happy times in between. Takeshi and Kasumi catch up to him, but Satoshi has made up his mind, and there's no changing it. The sun rises slowly, and someone casts a shadow over Satoshi, who looks up.

Pikachu is standing at the top of a hill, with the pack behind him. They cheer him on, as a hero, and Pikachu gives them his goodbyes. Then he runs towards Satoshi, looking happier than ever before. Satoshi smiles as he realizes that his friend doesn't want to leave him...

"Pikapi! (Satoshi!)" "Pikachu!" The two are reunited, and they hug each other for a long time...

Welcome back, Pikachu! We all missed you!

Police
Dogs Gardie
(Episode 54)
While travelling, Satoshi and his friends encounter officer Junsa who has a squad of trained Gardies to her with the police work. Wanting to train Pikachu just like the Gardies, Satoshi tries to go through an obstacle course with Pikachu so Pikachu can understand commands better, but they don't manage to complete it. Meanwhile, the Rocket Gang wants to capture the Gardies so they could train them to steal for them, and the barge into the police complex and spray a Kusaihana gas to remove the Gardies' sense of smell and a Koduck gas so everyone's voices would be unrecognizable to the Gardies. Using a megaphone that imitates voices, Musashi and Kojiro get dressed up as police women (^^;) and mimic Junsa's voice to command them to attack Satoshi and his friends. However, the Gardies end up recognizing Junsa as their real trainer, and they chase away the Rocket Gang and save the day.

Snap Shot
Opportunity
(Episode 55)
Satoshi and his friends encounter Toru, a young boy who wants to photograph rare Pokemon. He absolutely wants to take a picture of Pikachu, but unfortunately, Pikachu's camera-shy and avoids all the snap shots Toru takes. Unknown to Satoshi and his friends, Toru had been approached by an old couple and thier cat and was begged to "capture" Pikachu. Toru understood this as taking a picture, but the old couple was actually Musashi and Kojiro of the Rocket Gang. They eventually discover that Nyase misread the magazine that said that Toru could capture Pokemon (and gets his just desserts for that ^^;) and after going through the trouble of capturing Satoshi, Pikachu and his friends in one of their infamous pit traps, Satoshi and Pikachu fall through the bottom of the hole into the sewers below. Toru manages to save them after getting a good snap snot of Pikachu, but he manages to save them at the expense of his camera. They manage to defeat the Rocket Gang, and Toru decides to go with Satoshi so he could take more 0pictures of rare Pokemon.

Trainer
Examination
(Episode 56)
Satoshi and his friends arrive at a school that offers exams to Pokemon trainers; if they succeed in the tests, they can enter the Pokemon League without having to collect all the badges. Satoshi tries the tests, and unbeknownst to him, Musashi and Kojiro also try to take the tests. Musashi gets kicked out of the second part of the test after complaining that it's way too hard (and it is!), but Kojiro and Satoshi make it to the third part which involves doing a Pokemon battle versus the instructor with a set of random Pokemon at the trainer's disposal. Satoshi ends up with Rocket Gang-type Pokemon (Matadogas, Arbok and Nyase), but he manages to (sort-of) defeat the instructor's Pokemon; Kojiro gets kicked out because he attacks with two Pokemon at once (which is against the rules). Musashi and Kojiro try to attack with Kojiro's Pokemon, but they fail miserably (what else is new?). Satoshi decides that it's much easier to collect the badges rather than to try to do everything in one shot, and he and his friends leave with a new sense of determination.
