Last Exit Before HELL

This month: LOVELY ANGELS!

(That's right, this month is The Dirty Pair. Pray the column survives intact!)

"If the terrorists do release experimental bioweapons, this planet will become a sterile desert. Whereas, with the involvement of the Dirty Pair, there is a chance -- a remote possibility -- that SOME people may be left alive..." - from "Biohazards"

OK, I was really stoked about doing The Dirty Pair for my article. Dirty Pair fans are some of the most vehement fans around, and most of us have been fans since sometime in the late 80's, so we've also been around for a long time. I figured that kind of dedication to a series would have produced some SPECTACULAR sites. So much for THAT theory.

Anyways, in a break from the traditional, I will be reviewing both the good and bad sites this month. Anyone whose site gets a bad review has my permission to do something about it and work on his or her site until it no longer sucks.

Let's start off with . The page itself is very utilitarian, with little to look at, but you can join the list and there are options for reading posted material in both newsgroup and archived formats. The list is active, with the last article having been posted on the 22nd of February. I expect it will get DAMN busy when ADV releases the first Dirty Pair OAV sometime in May.

When you decide to create a webpage, you should ask yourself one thing: "Do I know what the hell I am talking about?" If he answer is no, then perhaps you should think about dropping the idea. is a prime example of this. Having seen Project Eden and two fanfilks of our favorite duo from the WWWA, he decided to create a webpage. Too bad he couldn't even be bothered to check out his facts. I have news for you dude, Mughi does too appear in DPFlash. In any case, the page is typical text'n'pics, with no real style or layout. The site does shine through with the ONLY reference to the fanfilk of "The Dirty Pair Does Dishes" I've ever seen, but that's about it.

OK, next on our list is... Nope. Forget it. It's just too crappy. I refuse to subject all of you to this page. NEXT!

has got all the standard info on Kei and Yuri you would expect from a Dirty Pair site, though it's hard to navigate, due to the fact that it's FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THE TEXT OVER THAT BACKGROUND! I could do without the "POV of the 3WA Commander" comments as well.

FINALLY! A SITE THAT LOOKS GOOD! is what I had been expecting from fans of the Dirty Pair. Too bad it's a bit short on the info, and hasn't been updated in forever. Still, it's the best looking site I came across, with great layout and lots of graphics. ALL Dirty Pair sites should look this good. I only wish he had teamed up with the guys from...

has possibly the most extensive Dirty Pair Flash site on the net. Heck, they even registered the domain name. While the site looks generally pretty good, they could have taken some design tips from the previous page. That aside, DPF.Com contains a HUGE pics gallery, a mailing list, a discussion group, and much more. However, a LOT of the site seems to have been completed in sort of a half-hearted way, and a lot of info you'd expect on a site like this (e.g.: episode synopses, character descriptions, production info and the like) are conspicuously absent. One of my pet peeves is people who submit every sub-page of their site to the 'Pike. Though not as prevalent as some (I can name one site that has all 186 anime reviews linked in individually), DPF.Com has a number of their subpages linked in separately, which does nothing more than clutter up the 'Pike and make it harder to navigate. As for the site in general, basically, when they actually FINISH this site it'll be great. But in the meantime...

Speaking of DPF.Com, they should find the 'creator' of and put a serious hurting on him. Not only did he steal all their pics (which they did put the kibosh on, so now instead of pics he has whiney little notes saying that DPF.Com made him take them down), but he stole most of the info from their site, including their little popup "quizzlet". What info he didn't lift from DPF.Com he cut'n'pasted directly from other sites, not even bothering to recode or reword it. I think dude's lameness speaks for itself. NEXT!

is possibly the best site for actual info on Kei and Yuri. With complete info for both their Dirty Pair and DPFlash incarnations, including the original voice actors and a short description of both, this site truly gives you the works. The site loads fast, and has enough pics to keep it looking good while not cluttering up the info. As well, it has one of the best episode lists I've seen (the only better list was from a site I'm not including because it has links to a MASSIVE hentai gallery ^^;). Too bad they haven't updated the place for over a year, and too bad the DPFlash section contains nothing more than a link to another site.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? Man, even when he's on vacation he's here. The award for Best Content In A Dirty Pair Page goes to Ryan Mathews for . While the site itself is pretty plain, it contains a TON of extensive Dirty Pair fanfics by Mr.Mathews and his compatriot Lawrence Mann.

And that's it. Some pretty average sites for a series that started out as 4 novels and ended up spawning a 26 episode television series, a 10 episode OAV series, 2 movies, 5 comic book series, and the 3 DPFlash OAV series. Hopefully when ADVision releases the original OAVs here starting in May it will boost people's creativity and we'll start seeing the websites the series deserves. Now, on to the letters...

We've got letters...!
