Letters

Just two letters this month, and they're old ones, in response to the March column. The April column either generated no letters, or (more likely), they went to my guest columnist.

    In response to Ms. Lee's request, I'd say my favorite spacey anime would be the movie They Were 11, which is available commercially from, uhm, somebody (Urban Vision?) at a decent price. At its heart it's a pre-New Wave SF story, but it mixes in some interesting discussion of gender roles and an Agatha Christie sort of whodunit plot. And there's the food fight. It's worth watching for the food fight alone.

    I can sympathize with your feelings about Katsucon. If I were to compose a list of my personal skills, ranked, "social interaction" would be just behind "thoracic surgery" and just ahead of "tennis." Unless a convention (or indeed any gathering of that sort) I'm at happens to be exceptionally busy, there's going to be some point or another where there's nothing to do except look at all the happy people around me and want to slug one of them. But this is the price we pay for being pathological social misfits and not doing anything about it.
