Otonashi Kyoko is the young and beautiful new manager of Ikkoku-kan, a very old apartment on a hill outside suburban Tokyo. Kyoko decided to work in Ikkoku-kan, owned by her father, after the previous manager quit. She saw her new job not just as a chance to take on more responsibility, but also as a way to stay close to her family. Kyoko is a very emotional woman. As much as she tries to hide her feelings, her face is as readable as a book. Because of this, the Looney Gang constantly tease and play with her just to get a good laugh. Kyoko first met Godai Yuusaku when she moved into Ikkoku-kan. She considers him as an unreliable and weak-willed man. She feels
sorry for his ronin status and tries to motivate him to do well and get into college. However, living under the same roof and interacting with him everyday, her feelings for him become much
more. So much more that drives her on the road to a forbidden love haunted by her past...
Kyoko met Mitaka Shun when she joined a women's tennis club. Although her impressions of Mitaka are very positive (he's
rich, polite, stylish, has shiny teeth, and is nice to women), she considers him as a friend who she can go to relief some stress.
Mitaka-san, however, is in love with Kyoko and will not rest until she becomes his.
Being pressured by Godai and Mitaka on both sides, Kyoko is forced to confront
her past and decide who is it that she really loves...
Soichiro-san is Kyoko's beloved shaggy white dog.
Its name was originally Shiro (white), however Kyoko renamed him to Soichiro-san. It does not do much but just yawn, eat, and sleep in its dog house all day, however, its presence acts
as a symbol to the decipher the real truth to Kyoko's past...
