Well, first off, thank you for reading this story. I would like to say that this won't be a normal Goldenboy story. It's a little more on the serious side because I am going to explore Kintaro's emotional side. His feelings of love, sadness, and other emotions we haven't seen from Kintaro in the Goldenboy series. As always, please give me some feedback and tell me if you liked it or not. So now, without further adue, I present to you; Goldenboy Lesson #7: " Do you remember? "
" Tokyo...wow, it has been awhile. Welp, lets get moving! " said Kintaro as he entered the outskirts of Tokyo. It has been two years since Kintaro was last seen working at the animation studio which created one of the biggest successes in Japanese animation history: " The Valley Where the Demon Cries. " After working on the project, Kintaro headed out to find new adventures in his never ending study of life. He drifted around, traveling from place to place like he always did when he heard a position had opened up at Shizama and Associates, one of the biggest law firms in Tokyo. He left his job and headed out to Tokyo, seemingly drawn out there by same unseen force. All he knew was that he wanted that job.
" Whew! Finally here! " exclaimed Kintaro as he parked his trusty Mikuzuki 5 ( or Crescent Moon, whichever version of Goldenboy you like the most ) in front of the offices of Shizama and Associates. Kintaro thought one of the most successful law firms in Tokyo would have bigger offices but he shrugged it off. Kintaro brushed himself off, stared at himself in a window pane and saw himself fit to enter the offices. Kintaro told the receptionist that he has arrived, and after a short wait, a man wearing a very expensive suit cames out to greet Kintaro. " Hello Mr. Oe, it's very nice to meet you. My name is Kazuya Shizama. Please follow me. " " Yes sir. " Kintaro replied as he followed Mr. Shizama into the main offices.
" These are the main offices. Over there are the bathrooms and when I have more time, I'll show you around more. But for right now, I am very busy. Do you have any questions Mr. Oe? " Mr. Shizama asked. " Well, I do have one. Why does one of the most successful law firms in Tokyo have such a tiny building? " Kintaro asked. Shizama chuckled and explained, " Well Mr. Oe, we started out as a very small firm. However, after winning some very high profile cases, we were in more demand. I felt that we should keep it small. Feels like we're more down to earth instead of letting every little thing get to our head. " Shizama fixed himself on Kintaro. " Mr. Oe, can I ask you something before I get back to work? I recall on your resume that you attended Tokyo University. However, you did not graduate even though you had enough credits to. Why didn't you complete school? " Kintaro shuffled his feet a little and replied, " Something came up. I felt as though I didn't want to be there anymore. There was this huge world out there that I wanted to explore and it called to me. So I answered. " Mr. Shizama smiled and nodded. " I must be on my way. If you have any questions, please ask any one around here. They'll be glad to help. Get to work Mr. Oe. " He then turned and walked into his office and sat down in front of a huge stack of case files. Kintaro smiled and quickly wrote in his notebook:
Kintaro walked around the offices getting used to the place. He had been hired on as a janitor and he could tell that this place really needed one. " Oh man, it's a wonder they get ANY work done! " He thought to himself. Kintaro surveyed the offices. There were twelve people total working in the main offices. Twelve really overworked people. Huge stacks of case files on each desk while each person had a phone to one ear and an eye on the files in front of them. " Wow, I'm kinda glad I didn't go into law. Man, doesn't look like a lot of fun. Oh well, I might as well get started on those windows in back. " Kintaro started to turn away when something caught his eye. He focused on the figure setting a desk closest to Mr. Shizama's office. The first thing he noticed was, the desk was relatively clear of files! He then saw the figure sitting in the chair in front of the desk. Kintaro's jaw dropped to the floor and he started to drool. " Wah wah WHOA! WHATTA BABE! " Kintaro eyed the specimen before him. She was about 5'7" tall, around 115 pounds and she had to be about a 33 C cup ( bra size ). She had long curly brown hair that went down to the middle of her back and she had a body that wouldn't quit!!! She turned to see Kintaro staring at her with his jaw dragging on the floor and was taken aback by this sight. She giggled and delicately waved at him. Kintaro's jaw slowly came back to normal and he started to smile. She turned her attention back to the phone and Kintaro shook himself out of it. He started to walk to the back of the offices to start on the windows, but quickly whipped out his notebook and skillfully sketched out a drawing of her and wrote beside of it:
A couple of days pass and Kintaro settles into his new job at the firm. His duties include cleaning the windows, washing the bathroom, and just about anything most janitorial duties consist of. "This is relaxing. I get to work and learn here at the same time. Everyone here is nice when they aren't swamped with work. I still haven't talked to that wonderious babe yet. I have plenty of time tho. Hehehe...man is she hot. Oh MAN! " Kintaro shakes off his thought and gets back to washing some windows. The building is actually bigger than Kintaro thought. It consists of three floors but the law firm only uses the first floor. The second floor consist of an accounting firm and the third floor is a cafe. Kintaro is only hired to clean the first floor but since the other floors don't have janitors, he cleans the whole building. He is busy cleaning some windows in the cafe when something touches him on the shoulder. Kintaro jumps out of his shoes and turns around to see that babe! " Oh! Whew! Umm..ahh hi! " he studders. She smiles at him and looks out the open window into the bright Tokyo sky. " It's been a long time Kintaro. I'm surprised you haven't said anything to me. " She says. Kintaro is taken aback by this. " I don't know you. This is the first time I've seen you. " He replies. She sighs and look directly into his eyes, " Oh really? Look into my eyes Kin-chan. Look into my eyes and try to remember. " " KIN-CHAN?!?! " Kintaro's mind jumps. " No one has ever called me Kin-chan like that except..." He looks deep into her eyes. " Those eyes. Those soft, lovely brown eyes. So full of love and life..." Finally, he realizes and turns to look out the window. " It's been awhile Kyoko. "
" It certainly has been Kin-chan. " The word strikes a chord within Kintaro causing him to get the chills. Kyoko notices this; " Something wrong Kin-chan? How have you been doing? " She asked, looking softly at him. " I've been doing ok. I'm a freeter now. I just travel from place to place working and learning as I go. " She chuckles at this and smiles. " Well, that certainly sounds exciting Kin-chan. " She says sarcasticly. " Oh yeah? And just what have YOU been up to huh? " He says. " Well, I've been here. I'm a full time lawyer now Kin-chan. I followed my dream and I'm living it now. " " Oh, that's great Kyoko. " He manages a smile, " I'm real happy for you. " Both of them stare out into the vast Tokyo skyline. The silence is deafening. Suddenly out of nowhere, " Do you remember Kintaro? " Kintaro's heart skips a beat. He looks out into the sky, feelings coming back to him he had long forgotten. " Yes, I remember Kyoko. I remember everything. "
It was a nice, bright sunny spring day at Tokyo University. This year's graduating class was one of the best yet. All of them were ready and set to go on to bigger and brighter futures. It was 3 weeks into the spring semester and Kintaro stepped out from his dorm. He stretched and took a deep breath of fresh air. He looked just the same as he does currently. Back then, he still sported the same baby face and long hair minus his soon to be trademark red cap. He was on his way to an early class when he was stopped by one of his friends. " Yo Kintaro! Where you off too? " a young man said. " Hey Ryu, what's up? I'm just off to class. These early classes are a real bummer but oh well. " Kintaro replied.
Ryu was about 5'8". He had dark hair and eyes and was real skinny. Regardless, he was a party animal and an overall fun guy to hang with. Kintaro, Ryu, and two others named Akira, and Keiichi were all best of buds. They went into school together and were going to leave together. " Well, I'm at my department Kintaro, I'll see you around later bro. " Ryu said as he darted off into the building. " See ya later Ryu. " Kintaro proceeded to keep on walking to class. He took his time as he had a good fifteen minutes until class. He stopped at a large decorative fountain that stand in the middle of campus. All it was really was just a pool with water spewing forth at five different places. It was simple but it did its job. Kintaro felt the cool mist hit his face and heard a sound of laughter coming from behind him. Kintaro looked over to see a woman, one of the most beautiful women he's ever seen. Long brown hair, a delicate face, and as close to a perfect body as a woman could ever hope to attain. Kintaro froze in his tracks and tried to speak, " Wha, ba, da, gaga, wha, what's wr...wrong?" She giggled. " Hehehe, calm yourself big boy, I was just giggling at you. You seemed so content looking at that fountain. I thought it was cute. " She replied. Kintaro blushed, " You you...think I'm cute? " She smiled and giggled more, " No no, I said what you were doing was cute. " she walked past him a couple of steps and turned back to him. " Now that you mention it, I guess you are cute. Hehehe, see ya laters! " She walked past the studdering Kintaro. Kintaro quickly spun around to catch the view from the back. " Wait! What's your name??? " He called out. She stopped and turned around, " Kyoko, Kyoko Hameya. "
Kintaro finished writing in his notebook about his experience that just occured ( yes, even then he had the notebook ). Kintaro felt compelled to follow. He nodded sternly to himself and followed Kyoko at a safe distance. She walked into the main adminitration building while Kintaro followed. He was glad she didn't notice but it seemed that everyone else around seemed to. Kintaro looked around to see people looking at him as he crouched in the bushes close to the building. He chuckled to himself and nerviously entered the building. He looked around the place and caught Kyoko entering the financial aid office. He jotted down that she must have worked there into his notebook and found a place to hide so he could see her when she got off work. " To hell with class! " Kintaro said. Three hours later, Kintaro spotted her coming out of the offices. He kept his distance and followed her. He wanted to know her schedule so he can know she goes during the day. " If I can figure out where she is every day, I can see her more! Whoa...look at her. Oh man...that butt...oh MAN! " Kintaro thought with a big grin across his face. A voice came out from behind him and scared him half to death, " Following Kyoko around eh? " Kintaro let out a yelp as he spun around and saw Akira. " Grrr... Akira! Scared me man. What do you want? Can't you I'm - " " Busy? " Akira interupted. That's Kyoko Hameya man. She's out of your league. WAY out of your league. " " Shut up Akira, we'll see. " Kintaro turned and didn't see Kyoko. " DAMN! See what you did?! " Kintaro ran off in the direction Kyoko was last seen in. Akira smiled and thought to himself, " Well, good luck Kintaro. "
Kyoko giggles and looks at Kintaro, " You know, I knew you were following me the entire time. " Kintaro turns to her shocked, " Really? Wow, I thought I was being kinda slick. " She laughed and leaned back on the window sill. " Truth is..." she said softly, " I kinda followed you too. For a long time. How do you think I saw you at the fountain? I liked you from the minute I saw you that semester before. There was something about you... " Kintaro smiled and looked at her. " Do you remember when we finally got together? It was about 2 weeks after I started to follow you. Remember? " Kyoko sighed and looked at Kintaro. " Yes, as a matter of fact I do. It was also the first time I called you Kin-chan..."
" So, you gonna do it Kintaro? You finally gonna ask her out? " Keiichi asked. Kintaro picked up his juice from the vending machine inside the Student Building. " Yeah...I am. I've got to. It's tearing me up bro. " Kintaro and Keiichi both sit down at a table next to a piano. " There's a party tonight at one of her friend's houses. I also just happen to know this friend, so I asked if I could come and she said yes. I plan on telling her there. " Kintaro explains while leaning back in his seat and taking a sip from his drink. " Ooooo, sounds like you have it all planned out. Well, I wish you luck Kintaro. Hey, do you think you can take me to the party? " Keiichi inquires. " Sure bro, no problem, we gotta find you a date too. " Kintaro smiles, finishes off his drink and they both begin to study. Two hours pass and Keiichi stretches out and sighs. " Oh man, studying always makes me sleepy. " Kintaro smiles, nods, and takes a look at his watch, " Hmmm...lets see, the party is at 11 tonight and it's only 2 now so..." Someone taps Kintaro on the shoulder scareing the hell out of him. He turns around to see a girl standing there holding her bag with a smile on her face. " Kintaro Oe? You're Kintaro Oe right? " Kintaro nods. " Come with me please. " The girl then calmly turns and walks outside of the bulding. Kintaro looks at Keiichi, nods, and walks out after the girl. " Hook me up Oe-kun! " Keiichi yells.
Kintaro lets the door close behind him and he spots the girl behind a nearby tree. He takes in the sight and analyzes her, " Hmmm...good figure, nice black long hair, about 5'5" and around 110 pounds maybe. Very nice. She's also a C cup..." Kintaro's eyes gleam as he walks up to the girl. " So, what did you want to talk to me about? I have a party to go to in about nine hours so I have to get ready. " The young girl giggles and replies in a high pitched voice, " Ohhh, well. I guess I better not keep you long. You have to look just perfect for your big night. " Kintaro blinks and wonders how she knows. " Big night? I don't know what you are talking about! It's just a little party..." Kintaro nervously says. " Mhmmm...anyways. My name is Rei. I'm a good friend of Kyoko's. I just needed to tell you two things. " Kintaro gulps as she continues. " Number one, you *better* treat Kyoko right if she does go out with you. If not... " Rei steps forward and grabs Kintaro by the collar and amazingly lifts him up. Kintaro's eyes bug out of his eye sockets. In deep threatening voice she says, " ...I *will* hurt you...bad. " Kintaro nods vigorously in agreement. She goes on, " And number two...tell your friends to come along. My friends and I want to get with some guys tonight and that friend of yours looks cute enough, so invite some more. Got it? " Kintaro nods more and squeezes out a " Ye...ye...Yes ma'am! " She lets go of Kintaro, straightens herself out and brushes her clothes. She then smiles cutely and reverts back to her normal high pitched voice, " Ok then! I'll see you and your friends later! " She skips off happily while Kintaro sits on the ground, eyes still bugged out, shaken up by the experience. " What have I gotten myself into now??? "
Kintaro and Keiichi walk back to their dorm. Kintaro lives on the sixth floor of a seven floor dorm while Keiichi lives on the seventh. On the way up to Kintaro's floor, Kintaro seems distracted. " What's wrong Kintaro? You still peeing your pants after that girl lifted you off of your feet? Hehehe. " Keiichi chuckled but Kintaro just stood there. " Keiichi? I'm...scared. Scared that she might reject me. " Keiichi looks at Kintaro with concern. " The mighty Kintaro Oe scared? Wow man, I had to idea you liked this girl so much. " Kintaro shuffled his feet and looked at the floor indicator in the elvator and watched as it reached the sixth floor. " I don't just like her...I love her Keiichi. A lot. Ever since we met and all the times we've seen each other after that. She's captured my heart. Everytime I see her, I fall deeper and deeper for her. It's hard to explain, I guess it's love at first sight or something... " The door opened and Kintaro steps out of the elevator, " See ya later Keiichi, meet ya at the party. Later bro. " Kintaro walked off towards his room while Keiichi goes up one more floor. " The Goldenboy in love? Hell *has* frozen over. " Keiichi chuckled to himself and shrugged it off.
The party was in full swing by the time Kintaro and his crew ( Akira, Keiichi, and Ryu ) arrived. It was held at the apartment of Ritsuko Ai, one of the richest students, and she also happened to be one of Kyoko's friends. The apartment was full of people and the music could be heard 3 blocks away. Kintaro and crew made their way to the place and found Rei. " OOOOOO!!! You *did* bring men! Hey Ritsuko! Hey Mai! Kintaro came through for us! " Two girls come running up to Kintaro and his friends and they start to introduce themselves. One girl with short red hair and a very nice body says, " Hi! I'm Mai! Pleased to meet you! Come on lets dance! " Mai proceeds to grab Akira by the hand and drags him out to dance. " Hey! Wait a minute! Ack! " screams Akira as he's ragged off to another part or the apartment. The next girl comes up and introduces herself but she's not quite as attractive as the other girls tho, " Hi! I'm Ritsuko! Lets dance baby!!! " She then grabs Keiichi's hand and runs off with him to another part of the room. " Why do I always get the ugly ones?!?! " Keiichi yells as his voice trails off as he's pulled off into the party. Rei then introduces herself to Ryu then the two of them leave off to go dance. " Good luck Kintaro! We're rooting for you! " Ryu yells out as he begins to dance with Rei. Kintaro smiles and walks on throughout the party and begins his quest to find Kyoko.
After about ten minutes ( this apartment was *huge* )He finally finds her at the back of the party. Kintaro stood in awe of her. The moon was out in all it's glory and it shined on her giving off a heavenly appearance. Kintaro gulped and walked over to her. " Hi Kyoko! How are ya? Why are you over here byself? " Kintaro asked. " Hi Kintaro! Well, there's no one here I really wanted to dance with, but now that you're here, that's all changed. " Kintaro blushed slightly and took her hand. " Well? Will milady give me the honor of this dance? " She giggled and went out to the dancefloor with him. By the time they got to a comfortable place to dance, the music had stopped and a slower paced song came on. Everyone around them started to slowdance. Kintaro blushed but Kyoko stepped forward and put her hands on his shoulders and quietly motioned for him to start dancing. Kintaro slowly placed his hands on her sides and started to slow dance with her. The song was a soft love song that seemed to fit the moment perfectly. At first it was awkward for him to dance with her as he looked around him, he saw that all the other couple were nice, close, and comfortable with each other. Even Keiichi and Ritsuko seemed happy despite Keiichi's earlier rantings. Kyoko pressed up closer againist him and pulls his head down with one of her hands and whispered in his ear, " Is something wrong Kintaro? You seem so uncomfortable. " " I'm...I'm fine Kyoko. " She smiled and layed her head on his shoulder. He was suprised at first and then calmed himself. He smiled down lovingly down at her. She stirred and looked up to catch his gaze. The were locked in each other's eyes. Kintaro looked into her soft and loving brown eyes and felt himself lost inside of them. " Kyoko..." Kintaro whispered. " I have to tell you something. " " What is it Kintaro? " Kintaro's heart began to flutter as the words came to him. " Since the first time I saw you, I couldn't think of anything else. Just you. " Kyoko's eyes start to tear up and Kintaro gently wipes them from her eye and continues. " I've never felt like this about anybody before. You've...captured my heart. I love you Kyoko Hameya. More than anything in this world. " Tears fall from Kyoko's eyes and she smiles. She starts to reach up on her tippytoes and Kintaro lowers himself and the two kiss in front of the window with the moonlight shining upon them. The kind of kiss most people can only dream about. A kiss which sealed the bond between the hearts of Kintaro Oe and Kyoko Hameya. Suddenly, the whole room lets out a collective " Awwwwww!!!!! " and the couple notices that the music has long been stopped and they are the only ones on the dancefloor. " Way to go Kintaro!!! " Kintaro looks to see his pals standing together with their newfound dance partners. He smiles and Kyoko suddenly pulls him down again and whispers in his ear, " Please, come home with me. Please Kin-chan? " Kintaro grins and gives her a nod and they then leave the party hand in hand with Kintaro giving his boys the thumbs up.
Kyoko sips her juice at a table her and Kintaro have sat down to. She looks lost in the juice as she smiles, " You know Kin-chan? I'll never forget that night. It was one of the most special nights I've ever had. " Kintaro blushes and sweeps around the cafe. " I'm glad you feel that way, it was very special for me too. " Kintaro says as he sweeps around all the tables. He then begins to set up all the chairs onto the tables. Just then, cafe owner comes out from one of the back rooms, " Oh! I was just gonna do that. Thanks Kintaro. Will you close up for me? " The owner asks. " Of course. Have a good evening. " He replies. The owner leaves her keys on one of the nearby tables and walks out and down the stairs. " Wow, we've spent all day talking. I hope the boss won't get mad at us. " Kintaro thinks out loud. " Nah, he's a nice guy. He won't mind. " Oe-kun nods and continues to set the chairs upon the tables. A silence takes over the room as Kyoko solemnly looks into her juice and Kintaro continues to straighten out the cafe. Both of them know what the other is thinking about. What they both lost...
Kintaro and Kyoko have been inseperable ever since that night and graduation is right around the corner. In fact, ever since that dance, all of Kintaro's and Kyoko's friends have stayed together. Akira and Mai, Keiichi and Ritsuko ( he grew to really like her ), and Ryu and Rei. It's two weeks until graduation but they all have been hard at work studying up for their final exams. Kintaro and Kyoko sit up in Kintaro's room studying for their respective final exams. " Whew, this crap is HARD! Oh well. " Kintaro says as he slams his book shut and falls back onto the floor. Kyoko giggles and closes her book as well and crawls over to Kintaro and kisses him softly. She lays her head on his stomach and looks up at the ceiling. Kintaro lets out a deep sigh and Kyoko raises up to look at him. " What's wrong Kin-chan? These exams bumming you out? " Kintaro smiles and shakes his head. " No sweetheart. I was just thinking about graduation and us. This all seems so perfect you know? I've never been so content. We're going to go on and becomes bigtime lawyers and be rich and have a big home and all that stuff. Hehehe, I just get excited thinking about it. " He looks over to Kyoko to view her reaction but finds her looking up blankly at the ceiling. " What is it Kyoko? Something wrong? " She gets up and grabs her bag. " It's nothing Kin-chan. I gotta get going, I'll see you later to study ok? " She walks out of Kintaro's room without a second glance as Kintaro stood there confused as hell. " Wa...wa...huh? "
The next day Kintaro was still worried about yesterday. He meets up with Akira after his first final exam at the library. " Whew, that test was easier than I thought, only 6 tests more to go and I'm outta here! " Kintaro says as he sits down at a table where Akira sits entranced in a book. He smiles at Kintaro as he sits and then goes back to his book. Kintaro lays his head down on his arms on top of the table and sighs. " I don't understand it Akira, something is wrong with Kyoko but she won't tell me what. I don't get it. " Akira flips a page and keeps on reading. Kintaro looks at Akira and frowns. " I mean, she seemed so happy. Was it something I did? Argh! " Still no response from Akira. " This is really bugging me. I gotta talk to her. She's too busy today and tomorrow, but I'll talk to her friday and get this all straightened out. I mean we talk about everything and we're so open with each other. We should work this out together. " Kintaro nods sternly, " Thanks Akira, you've been a great help! " " Anytime. " Akira replies not taking his head out from under his book. Later, Kintaro gets home to see that there's a message on his machine. " Interesting, I hardly ever get messages. " He thinks. He pushes the button and is suprised to hear Kyoko's voice on the message. " Kin-chan, we need to talk. Please go to the fountain at nine. " The message stops and Kintaro's heart froze in mid-beat. " Why? What's happened now? "
Kintaro stood looking into the water in the fountain. It was a nice, clear night out and the moon was just as bright as when they first got together. Kintaro stood there, lost in the clear blue water wondering what was gonna happen. After he heard the message, he found himself here. He was twenty minutes early, but he didn't seem to care. His mind was lost, wandering through the possibilities of what could happen. Kintaro suddenly heard steps coming from behind him and a voice softly speaking to him, " Do you remember Kin-chan? When we first met here at this fountain? " Kintaro nodded and turned towards the girl who was standing behind him. " Kyoko, what's going on sweetie? Please tell me. " Kyoko sighed and walked past him and sat on the ledge of the fountain's edge. " I'm...leaving for America. I leave Saturday. " Kyoko's voice is soft as she is on the verge of tears. " What? But what about graduation? What about us? " Kintaro asks franticly. " I'm so sorry Kin-chan. I never thought I would get picked. I applied for this a long time ago. It's an internship at a great law firm in the states. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! But I never ever thought they'd pick me...Kin-chan, I'm so sorry..." Kintaro's heart raced, beating a mile a minute. " But but, what about us? Two years? Kyoko! We were supposed to graduate together! We're gonna have a huge house! Become rich and famous! " Kyoko stood up and looked straight at Kintaro, tears streaming down her face, " I know Kintaro! But I'm sorry...I have to do this for me Kin-chan...can't you see this hurts!? I tried to keep it from you...but we were so happy! Together! I never thought I could meet a man like you Kin-chan, I never wanted to hurt you! Please believe me!!!" Kintaro's eyes began to water. He hugged her close as the realization sunk into his heart and his mind. An eternity passed between them before Kintaro spoke, " So...I guess this is it then huh? When do you leave? Saturday you said, right? " Kyoko nodded. Kintaro lets out a big sigh and presses her closer, " Well then, lets make sure the remaining time we spend together is special... " Kyoko looked up at Kintaro and her the tears once again came back to her as she sobbed on his chest. " Kin-chan...thank you. " The words struck a chord inside of his heart and Kintaro looked up at the lonely moon high in the sky as a tear escaped his eye...
The couple spend the rest of the week inseperable. All of their tests went smoothy and the year was finally winding down. Every day and night, Kintaro and Kyoko spent the last of their remaining time together. Each knew that it would end, but it didn't matter to them. They spent every moment they could together, for this would be the last time they would see each other in a very long time. That friday night, Kintaro and Kyoko found themselves at that very same fountain, once again, in each other's arms. Neither of which regretted a single moment they spent together and they knew it. Not a word was said, there wasn't a need, each knew what the other was thinking. Every now and again, they joked and played around the fountain. Kintaro chased her around while Kyoko ran. If anyone was around to see them, they would think how great they were for each other. However, deep inside both Kyoko and Kintaro lay a sadness. A pain caused by the knowledge that this was it. While they never regretted a single moment, it still hurt. After a little mini-wrestling match in a grassy area around the fountain, Kyoko and Kintaro lay there in the grass looking up at the vast sky above them. It was relaxing and comfortable. Kyoko's head laid on Kintaro's chest just like a million times before as if nothing has or will change. Kyoko turned to face Kintaro, kissed him softly and whispered something to Kintaro that made a big smile cross his face. The young couple got up and walked back towards Kintaro's dorm for what would be their last night together at Tokyo University...
Kintaro finishes cleaning up the cafe. He looks outside to see that day has turned to night as he gazes at the beautiful Tokyo night. " Wow, we spent all day talking. I hope the boss won't be mad. " Kintaro wondered aloud. " Nah, he's cool. He won't care much. As long as the work gets done. Well, I better head home. You going too Kintaro? " Kintaro nods as he and Kyoko head out of the cafe. Kintaro locks the door behind them and head down the stairs with Kyoko. Everyone has long since left as they reached the bottom. Kyoko asks Kintaro to wait while she grabs her things and he agrees. She comes back a short time later and Kintaro locks up the building. The night is a bit chilly but very nice otherwise. " Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow Kyoko. You have a nice night ok? " Kintaro says and turns to get his bike from the bike rack out in front. Kyoko suddenly reaches out and grabs his hand. Kintaro looks back to see Kyoko looking up at him, fighting to hold back the tears. " Kin-chan...it's been so long since I've seen you. Don't act like nothing has happened! Just like it's another day! Kin-chan...I still feel something between us..." She breaks down and hugs him tightly. " Kin-chan! Please! Please...don't let me go. I have waited for so long Kin-chan...and now you're here. I can't fight it! I love you Kintaro...I love you..." Kintaro's heart skips a beat as Kyoko pours her heart out. A million thoughts run through Kintaro's mind but only one he could hear clearly. He wraps his arms around her softly and squeezes her. " Kyoko... " " Kin-chan...I don't want to be alone...please...tonight...please..." Kintaro smiles down at her and nods his head. Flashes of the many memories to two shared together ran through the both of them as the two lovers kissed again for the first time in five years. Kyoko led Kintaro by the hand to her car, and the two sped off into the beautiful Tokyo night.
Kyoko woke up the next morning but noticed one thing was missing; Kintaro. She just thought he went into work early to open up everything like he always does so she went ahead with her normal morning schedule as usual. She got to work on time as always and sat down at her desk and started her work. She thought it was weird that she hasn't seen Kintaro yet but she figured he was off working somewhere else. Just then, Mr. Shizama walks up to Kyoko's desk. " May I help you Mr. Shizama? " She asked politely. " Have you seen Kintaro today? I know he opened up today but he left the key on my desk and I haven't seen him anywhere. " Kyoko's heart stops. She manages to shake her head indicating a no at Shizama. " Well, ok. Thanks anyways Kyoko " Mr Shizama lets out as he returns to his desk. Kyoko's mind races. " Kin-chan? What happened to Kin-chan? Is he ok? Did something happen after he left? Did I do something wrong? Kin-chan..." A tear streams down Kyoko's cheek and drops upon a case file she was working on.
" Kyoko, you got a package. " Mr. Shizama says as he drops a little package onto Kyoko's desk. " Thank you sir. " She looks at the package. It has no return address as it was made out care of the firm. She puts the package up to her ear to check to see if it's ticking. She realizes it isn't and starts to open it. She looks at what was in the package. She holds up the only thing that was in the package. A little red notebook with a little label on the front that says " Spring 1993. " She opens it up to the first page and a little note falls out of it. She picks up the note, unfolds it and starts to read.
Please forgive me. By the time you are reading this, I am well out of Tokyo. This is my personal notebook from our last semester in college. Since there was still a lot of things I never told you, I felt you should at least read about them. There's some juicy stuff about Ryu, Akira and some of your girlfriends in there too. Kyoko...there's so many things to say to Kyoko...but there's only one that really needs to be said. Thank you. Thank you for everything you have ever done for me. I'm am certainly glad your internship in America did you good. Look at you now. One of the best in Tokyo. You should be proud Kyoko. I'm proud of you. You've taught me a lot sweetheart. I wish...I wish things were different, but I'm the one on the move now. I wouldn't have felt right staying there so I had to leave. It'll be easier on the both of us. That night...a week ago...thank you. For one night, I knew how it felt to be in your arms again Kyoko. I remembered what it was like to be loved again...I wish I could have stayed but I couldn't. Please forgive me Kyoko. Believe it or not, I love you Kyoko Hameya. I can't wait for the day we meet again and say...Do you remember?
Love Always,
Kintaro Oe.
Tears hit the note like a slow drizzle. Kyoko clutched the note in her hand and held it to her heart..." Kin-chan...I'll remember. "
