The last of the trio of alternate-universe stories, the short-lived Gundam X not only managed to end this bold experiment but also broke a four-year streak of Gundam television series. Midway through its 39-episode run, it was moved from a comfortable Friday afternoon slot to 6:00 AM on Saturday morning, and thereafter cancellation was not long in coming.
The story of Gundam X is a sort of "what if" variation on the original Gundam series. The epic, world-ravaging Seventh Space War is just the classic One Year War with a higher devastation quotient, and former rival aces Jamil Neat and Lancerow Dawell are stand-ins for Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. The series is also the only alternate-universe tale to feature newtypes.
